Hidden Mother:

A common phenomenon from the early 1900’s known as “hidden mother” refers to cropped photographs that hide the floating hands and draped heads of mothers holding their young child still during a long exposure time. These pieces depict solvent transfers of unknown women confined behind furniture and other blockades, while a simultaneous sense of isolation and exclusion emerges. The young subject is intentionally absent to emphasize this inadvertent act of subjugation.
